A Casey Family History

Lisa Casey Perry

A Note From The Compiler

What a debt of gratitude I owe to the researchers, librarians, volunteers, cousins and countless others who work so hard, are willing to share the fruits of their efforts, and whose minds are far sharper than mine! I can think of few pursuits more personally satisfying and yet mind numbingly frustrating than genealogy. As a novice, online researcher, digging for family history either keeps me up late scouring internet resources or invades my dreams in the form of mysterious collages of places, faces and dates.

The work that has been compiled here is far from perfect or complete. While I am very particular about sources, my zeal to confirm a "theory" has sometimes led me to hang on to an unverified source -- at least temporarily. But I have also discarded other sources and dropped some early preconceptions, including oral traditions I had heard as a child, when proof positive has convinced me of the error. As time has gone by, I have discovered that it is much more fun to follow that which can be known as near certain, than to cling to romantic notions that are not based on any truth. Wherever my information is shaky, I have tried to note that in my sources.

East Texas Roots

Much of my immediate family are from East Texas and in particular, Mount Vernon, Franklin County, Texas cradled many an ancestor. A very good place to read about what life was like for these families in the early 1900's is a story published on the Franklin County genealogical website titled, "Purley As I Remember It", by Carl Newsome. A few surnames being researched for this site are mentioned by name and a lot of information may be gleaned from Mr. Newsome's rich memories.

Also, after much hand wringing, I have decided to publish my grandmother's personal story. She composed this little story over many, many years. It tells the tale of her life growing up and falling in love in Mount Vernon, Texas, circa 1914-1960. Like many good people from East Texas, my grandmother was loathe to say anything unkind about folks, there is however, a necessary part of her biography that includes an unfortunate young woman and some members of that woman's family. I have decided to omit the surname for that little portion of the record in order to preserve some privacy for any family who may still be in the area.

Related & Allied Families

And finally, while the descendants of James and Anne Casey of South Carolina are the main focus of this site, I continue to research other family lines as well. Please visit those family pages and let me know if you are helped by any of the data.

Finally, I would like to invite all visitors to email me any additions or corrections. The purpose of this site is primarily to make connections with other good people who may be working on these lines in order that we may further the work and honor the memory of our forebears.

Thank you for visiting. I hope you will come back often and stay in touch!
